Coming Home

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted, but I’ve decided to resurrect my blog.  I have spent the last 9 months living in Phoenix where I all but finished school.  With 2 science classes and my thesis to go, I decided to move back out to NYC, but this time it is a more permanent move.

I moved in with Deanna, my friend from my internship at The Broadway League last summer.  We signed a year-long lease at an apartment just a 5 minute walk from the heart of midtown, Times Square.

Coming back out here, I was excited but at the same time, completely terrified.  I flew out of LAX at 7am on May 22nd and arrived at JFK at around 3:30pm.  I was overwhelmed about moving to the opposite side of the country.  I was able to distract myself from all of this by sleeping on plane and fearing for my life in the cab on the way to my apartment.  But, as soon as the cab emerged from the Midtown Tunnel and I began to see the familiar streets of Manhattan, my fears were relieved and I felt at home.

That evening, before unpacking, Deanna and I went to the roof via the fire escape in the bedroom and I saw the most beautiful view of Manhattan that I have ever seen.  It’s good to be home.

Unfortunately…

… I will not audition for Godspell today. After waiting since 5:30 am, I won’t get to audition for Godspell until after 2pm and my other audition call is at 3pm. I need to make it to that one early… so, it is time for me to move on.

Donuts!

I was just offered donuts in line for Godspell. I don’t know how long the line is but I’m pretty sure it’s over 3 city blocks. We should be going in pretty soon… to wait a little longer.

Good luck streak…

…comes to an end.  The last two weeks have been amazing and a lot of fun! While I have yet to go into detail about my fabulous weekend in D.C., I regret to inform you that my luck is over.

After feeling sick since Tuesday, I called in sick today and I went to the doctor. After waiting what felt like forever, he concluded that he believes that I have strep throat.  He put me on antibiotics while he sends out my test for a culture (what fun!) So after filling my prescription, I walk outside and it starts pouring.  Being the silly person I am, I didn’t bring my umbrella with me.  I’m stuck walking in the rain for almost 10 minutes trying to get back to the subway.  Of course, the second I approach the station, it stops raining.  Once I exit of course, the skies opened up again.  Just my luck!

Lesson of the day.  Don’t have too many good days in a row, it just might backfire.

Time flies

38 days into my NYC summer and it’s actually really becoming home to me, too bad I’m already over a 1/3 of the way done. I have 50 days left out here until returning to Phoenix.  While I can’t wait for the fall and seeing all of the people I love so dearly, I know it’s going to be insanely difficult leaving this city.  I never had that, “Oh my God, I live in New York” moment, but when I was driving back from D.C. on Sunday and saw the NYC skyline, the first thing I thought was, “Finally, I’m home.”

The 65th Annual Tony Awards

Now it’s time to talk about the awards ceremony itself!  It’s been over a week since the Ceremony but I will give you a quick recap.

  • Getting there we were ushered in and given instructions on how to properly fill a seat.
  • After learning how to fill a seat, we were placed into seats.  I was originally placed in a holding seating area in the back of the theatre where I socialized and watched the other guests mosey on in. I saw, Aaron Tveit, Sutton Foster, Brooke Elliot (from Drop Dead Diva) and so many more!
  • Right before the start of the pre-broadcast I was moved up to the front and sat in Hugh Jackman’s seat (or I’m pretty sure it was his seat) until he and a few others came back to claim them before the telecast.  But while I was there I was near Edie Falco, Bobby Cannavale, Sutton Foster, Stephen Colbert, etc.
  • I was moved back into holding right before the telecast and remained there until somebody won an award for costuming, in which I took her place, sitting in the row behind Nikki M. James and the rest of the “Mormon” crew.
  • Right before Nikki won her award, I was ushered back to the back and once she one, I reclaimed her seat, meaning I was in the “Mormon” section.  I remained there for a considerable amount of time until moving to a different holding area.
  • As soon as Anything Goes won for Best Revival, I took the producer’s seat and sat there for the remainder of the show.

The ceremony was so entertaining and so much fun, I am humbled to have been able to witness it.  These people are so insanely talented and I can’t believe that I am in any way connected to the Broadway community.
